Yoga Yes, But Why Naked?
Yoga is a holistic practice which is not only about physical postures and exercise, but involves getting to know ourselves more deeply. By learning about our minds through meditative practice, yoga becomes an act of transformation. It is not necessarily about becoming a different person, but about discovering and becoming who we truly are.
Naked yoga (or ‘nagna’ yoga as it is sometimes known) is the oldest form of yoga and has long been practiced across the world by those seeking to honour their body, soul and mind with spiritual unification.

Release Yourself to Find Yourself
Laying ourselves bare in a safe, non-sexual environment helps us to throw off the shackles of conformity and embrace our vulnerabilities. Naked yoga is a way of releasing our minds to gain more clarity, reduce stress and experience a deep inner peace never felt before. In doing so, we find not only a deep sense of relaxation but also immense inner strength.
Naked yoga invites us to discover the divine within by embarking on a personal internal journey of self-acceptance. In doing so we can not only find authentic inner peace for ourselves, but we learn to coexist with others more peacefully too.
Yoga Classes for Every Body
The modern Western mindset means that being naked often provokes feelings of embarrassment or shame. The body positivity movement is certainly gaining pace (finally!), but inside, many of us still have an inner critic that is hard to silence.
We have been conditioned to believe that our bodies are not perfect enough, not smooth enough and not neutral enough to be accepted. We are led to believe that our naked form should be concealed and that the only time and place to be free of clothes is when we are in a consensual sexual environment. If we only see the human form when we are being intimate, of course you can expect a backlash when our bodies are exposed outside of the usual place of acceptance.
Layering our bodies with clothes gives us the ability to easily manipulate our image to ensure the world sees us how we wish to be portrayed. However, that doesn’t change how we truly feel about ourselves deep inside. Practicing yoga without clothes means stripping ourselves back (literally as well as metaphorically) to remove the constraints imposed on us, and that we also impose upon ourselves.

Body Empowerment Through Movement
The objectification of the naked human body remains a pervasive societal issue that transcends gender boundaries. We have little power over how our bodies are viewed, and showing naked body parts is still widely considered the taboo of all taboos. This leads to laying shame upon those practicing the most natural of acts such as breastfeeding babies in public or simply getting changed at the beach. By practicing naked yoga, we are able to positively celebrate the wonder of our natural form for ourselves, not for the gratification of others.
Our bodies are an expression of our consciousness and connect us to nature. Whether running barefoot or relishing the feel of sand on our toes, reconnecting to nature and rebalancing our energies should be a daily focus for everyone looking to re-harmonise and ground themselves. When we release ourselves from fabric clothing, we are better able to release our inhibitions and feel every movement of the practice which in turn transforms our psyche. Embracing our nakedness can be a tool for rebalancing and reconnecting to nature and rediscovering our Self and our purpose.
Body consciousness is a form of ego, and only by reducing one’s ego can we reveal our true self. Breaking down barriers and truly celebrating the power and amazing capabilities of our bodies as we flow and move can help us to find deep inner peace and empowerment.
If you are looking to deepen your yoga practice and experience the heady bliss of true self-acceptance, naked yoga is where it is at.
